As a writer and photographer I travel between my life in Toronto, my life in Antigua, and anywhere else my wanderings may take me ... writing my books and enjoying local arts and adventures along the way.

The One That Didn’t Get Away

Today we went fishing. For my kids it was their first time fishing in Antigua. We fished in the waters off an unnamed dock with the nearest visible landmark being a boat ferrying passengers to Jumbie bay. We began our fishing with the good omen of seeing a sea turtle just off the dock. My daughter caught the only fish of the day. It was too small to make a full meal, but more than large enough to be fun to catch. My son hooked what must have been a larger fish, but we were caught unawares and it took off with the rod. The fishing rod and reel were yanked off the pier into the water where they skipped over the water like a water skier until they sank into the depths.

Though small, it was fresh from the sea and delicious.
