Visiting the Pumpkin Patch at Forsythe Family Farms

For a huge number of kids in Toronto the tail end of October means that Halloween is near. That translates to two things: candy, and pumpkins. With pumpkins there is pumpkin pie, roasted and salted pumpkin seeds, and of course the spooky jack o’lantern. Forsythe Family Farms makes getting a pumpkin for any of these purposes an entertaining event for the family.

Lots of pies and preserves were on sale. The pies were baked right there and smelled delicious.

In the olden days I imagine that milking cows would be a real chore. Nowadays for most city kids it's merely imaginary. Here a milking simulator helps paint the picture about where milk comes from for the new generation of city slickers.

When asked on the way to the farm "how big of a pumpkin are we going to get" I answered "certainly big enough to swallow your sister ... and I imagine there'll be space enough left in there for you too". But despite our enthusiasm even this one was too big and heavy.

The horses pulled just one smaller buggy, but a tractor pulled two long ones along an separate trail.

The buggy ride gave passengers the option of getting off half way to walk along the trail of the enchanted forest.
