One Last Dip

"Yes you can go for one last dip".

When Joseph and I said our goodbyes I felt inspired to try new things in photography. Remembing my conversation with Joseph Jones and how he takes note of the special conditions of light, colour, and shade in Antigua that last only moments, I took just a few photos of my kids enjoying “one last dip” at Darkwood beach in the mere seconds before the moment of light and shade was gone.

Last Lap of Antigua 2009 Carnival

The final day of carnival is called Last Lap. For Last Lap the separate parades of Carnival (including the children’s parade) come together into a single final parade.

Judging of the Bands

Chandy, Brian and others that helped organize the troupe didn’t play mas (join the parade) today. Today was for making sure all their troupe arrived at the right place at the right time, had their costumes, and were fed and refreshed.

At the end of the night when my camera battery died I shook his [Ibis's] hand in thanks and made my way home well satified that I had seen a true performer giving an honest no-holds barred performance.

The legends of soca came commanded the attention of the audience with a presence that only having owned the stage for decades can give.

I still look forward to meeting Dave wherever we do meet up. And I’m awaiting the written record he has promised to send me of his at times hair raising travels alone by sea across the Atlantic.
